President Trump Addresses Government Shutdown And Makes Immigration Reform Proposal

Today the President addressed the very real crisis at our border. During that address he noted the fact that the majority of women are raped trying to enter the country illegally, and that the cartels have a massive foothold on both drug and human trafficking. Meanwhile the major television networks: NBC, CBS & ABC covered sports games instead of our President’s important speech.

President Trump addressed the very real impact of drugs and illegal immigration on our country. With both of those figures costing us roughly $700B each a combined $1.4 trillion. He stated how any American lives taken by an illegal alien are one too many and that he promised us the American people that he would fix this crisis. This is what he is trying to do!

The President also encouraged bi-partisan compromise for the government to do what needs to be done, and that our immigration system should be the envy of the world. Not the massive symbol of division that it is today. With those statements the President then announced a proposal to congress that would end the government shutdown.

In that proposal he stated that immigration reforms would have comprehensive input from our border patrol agents who do their best to protect our borders daily. That both parties should embrace this common sense solution with enthusiasm, and that the radical left will never control our borders. “I will never let that happen.” President Trump stated. “Walls are not immoral, in fact they are the opposite of immoral because they will save many lives and stop drugs from pouring into our country.”

The proposal includes $800M in urgent humanitarian assistance. $805M for drug detection technology to help us secure our ports of entry. An additional 2,750 border agents and law enforcement officers. 75 new immigration court teams to reduce the backlog of almost 900,000 cases. Our current policies are ridiculous and unsustainable. Within the plan are new measures to ensure the protection of migrant children from exploitation and abuse. This includes a new system to allow central american minors to apply for asylum in their home countries and to push for the reunification of families.

To physically reinforce our borders the plan also includes $5.7B for a strategic deployment of physical barriers / walls to be built. These are steel or concrete barriers in high priority locations. Much of the border is already protected by currently existing structures or natural barriers. However this will allow for an additional 230 miles of securing along our southern border.

If this proposal is passed our country will be a safer place to live for all of us and a more just process will be in place for the benefit of anyone who seeks to become an American legally. Projections say that the illegal immigration crisis and the drug crisis taking place in our country could be cut in half. The security measures being proposed have been by both Republicans and Democrats.

The President also said to build the goodwill necessary to hopefully pass this bill. He will provide 3 years of legislative relief for the 700,000 DACA / Dreamers. This will allow them access to work permits, social security numbers and the ability to apply for citizenship. The second element will provide protective status for 300,000 additional illegal immigrants within the country whose status has expired to be safe from deportation and allow them to apply for citizenship within that time without fear of deportation.

The bill is set to be voted on sometime this week in Washington. The proposal is not intended to solve all of the immigration issues we face as a country. But would rather be an excellent start to solving the most pressing issues that we are facing. The bill would also re-open the federal government. Prior to his speech the President also signed a bill that will allow the pay of furloughed federal workers affected by the government shutdown.

This is the most comprehensive and non partisan bill proposed in generations to solve our countries immigration problems and should be embraced by both the left and the right as a common sense solution to a difficult problem. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the house votes in solidarity to bring forth the solutions our country has needed for a long time.

  1. The problem as far as the Democrats are concerned is that, even though this proposal can be considered a win for both sides of the aisle, it includes a win for president Trump which they will not allow. PDJT is a master of the deal and he will figure out a way to get it done in spite of the Dems efforts to stop it.
